Thank you Australia! Free downloads & Forthcoming fun: NAC & JS Bachwards

February 15, 2015

Holy hoop snakes!  Deep thanks to all our new friends, fans and found-family who made this Australia tour a rampaging success!  From MONA in Tasmania, to the Blue Mountains in Katoomba, to the folk fest feasting in Illawarra, to the hot hopping hip Cafes in Melbourne, the gigs were a ton of fun, and the bits of beach and brambles we snuck in between gigs, were a welcome escape from the winter back home… I even managed to sneak off for a day and go scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef!

Near the end of the tour, we were honoured to be asked to play live on Andrew Forde’s show on ABC Radio National, only two weeks after Pat Metheny and the week before The Punch Brothers!  You can hear the tunes and full interview here

We premiered a bunch of new pieces on the tour, some of which were captured by the wonderful folks at Humph Hall in Sydney, where we did an acousticklish set.  Here’s a new song from that gig recorded by one lonely microphone in the middle of the room:

Extra special thanks to our agent Cathy Kirkpatrick, our uncle Andrew Lorien, our manager Todd Biffard and the Canada Council for the Arts for making the tour possible!

Coming up next, I’ll be doing a solo homeroutes tour through MB/SK on the way to the west coast for JS Bachwards: Early Music from the Future for solo violin, a duo tour with Marc Destrube, curated by Early Music Vancouver.  Marc is an incredible man who was generous enough to take me under his wing as a classical violinist 10 years ago when I was studying music in Vancouver, he also happens to be the greatest baroque violinist in Canada, in my humble opinion.  This unique concert will have Marc playing solo repertoire for the violin, such as the Bach Solo Partitas, or Hinrich Biber’s Rosery Sonatas, and after each piece, I’ll have follow each of Marc’s renditions with one of my arrangements of the same piece, but played in my own style.

It’ll be a nerve-wracking, and humbling experience I’m sure, but surely a one-of-a-kind concert, and one that I’m honoured to be part of.  Details on the shows page.

I’ll be flying home just in time to hit the road with The Opposite of Everything again for a tour eastward to Quebec, including a show at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa!  So more on that soon!    Also, we’ll be making our summer tour announcement real soon, which include some amazing festivals across Europe, so check back soon, and thanks for keepin’ an eye on us!  Hope everyone’s keeping warm out there!
